Weeknote #27

About the last few weeks…

It just hasn’t stopped. Life has been on a constant go and I’m now feeling utterly wiped out but there’s a couple more weeks before things calm down fully.

At the start of the month, I tried out for a non-competitive cheer team and had a great tryout session but didn’t make the team. I made the decision back in June to take a step back from cheer and not getting on this particular team hasn’t upset me the way I thought it might - I think I’m fully becoming ok with my decision to leave cheer behind me.

I’ve been continuing to work hard at my bell ringing and am building up a couple of callouses in high stress parts of my hands. I’ve now had a go at leading which is much harder than it looks (as with everything in bell ringing I’ve come to find out) and I’ve rung in called changes to and from Queens and Titums most recently.

Socialising has featured much more heavily in my last few weeks than I’m used to which is probably contributing to the tiredness - a friend was visiting from Australia and another visited from New York so I went to dinner with each of them which was great fun. We also hosted a BBQ and Lego day at our house to celebrate the kitchen and bathroom being finished where friends helped us build most of the Rivendell Lego set - no mean feat - and enjoyed a BBQ in the unusually warm October weather (stresses in global warming).

One particular week featured three life-stages events and ended up being a whirlwind: a christening at the Tower of London chapel; a funeral in Wrexham; and a wedding in an Irish castle! The wedding was a particular highlight - it was black tie which necessited an evening gown for me which I hemmed 3.5” by hand when even my heels couldn’t stop me tripping over the dress.

We did a spot of gardening and planted up three “bulb lasagnes” for our front garden - layering daffodil, hyacinth, crocus, and tulip bulbs with soil and some winter bedding plants on top. The hope is that the various plants will flower at different times and we’ll almost always have some lovely flowers in the pots to come home to.

Work hosted their annual charity fundraising day for which our departmental dress up theme was “Rock and Roll”. I interpreted this to mean dress as the angstiest teen possible and my team had a fun day of watching a dog catwalk, eating cake, and enjoying cheap drinks all in the name of charity.

Vinted has sucked me in since I found an almost-new Barbour jacket on there which has been a bit of a dream purchase for a couple of years now and I found a great Lucy & Yak jumpsuit on there new with tags! I don’t think they’ve done this pattern for a while but I’ve had a lot of compliments on it already.

The Morning Coffee sock that I cast on back in April has finally been finished… now I just need to do it all over again to make the second. I’ve only got the neckline to do on my knitted cami and I’ve put my new, bougie Monday Sweater on pause while I make sure I actually finish some of my other projects. The yarn for a friend’s kids’ snoods should be arriving today so I need to make sure I’m not busy with other WIPs.

In anticipation of friends coming to stay this week, we had an evening in after work this week with a takeaway curry and watched The Nightmare Before Christmas.
