Weeknote #51

It’s been a mad month since bringing home our puppy, Rosie!

  • There’s been so much progress and also many days of tearing our hair out not knowing what we need to do when she has a day of being a menace

  • We’ve spent two bank holiday weekend Sunday mornings at the animal hospital (she’s all ok now!)

  • She’s had most of her vaccinations so we could finally start taking her on walks this week which is so exciting!

  • We’re working on training and crate training which we’re discovering is definitely not a linear process

  • She’s met so many of our friends and some of their kids - she’s so good with new people and clearly wants to be a Good Girl but doesn’t always know how to

  • Puppies are exhausting and so expensive but then when she runs up to you tail wagging and a smile on her face, or climbs into your lap for a cuddle, it all feels worth it

  • Figuring out how to work from home while balancing puppy care has been a journey - and it’s an ongoing learning process

  • Night shifts and disrupted sleep are probably the hardest part of all of it

I’ve also had a great few weeks of bell ringing: I can now ring Plain Hunt from the treble on 3, 4, and 5 bells and I’ve also rung on bell 2 for PH on 3, and bell 4 for PH on 5! I’m going on a training course this weekend to practice PH on 5-8 bells which is very exciting.

The Surrey Association of Bell Ringing also did a Northern District outing last weekend which I went on - it gave me the opportunity to ring at 4 central London towers, including Southwark Cathedral! It was an amazing day and I was lucky enough to treble and ring bell 4 at the cathedral which has 12 bells for rounds as well as calling changes on 8 bells at two of the other towers during the day. I’ll definitely be signing up for future outings.

Knitting has become much harder to do as I rarely get any downtime between puppy care but I’m finding sock knitting the easiest to pick up and put down whenever I get a few minutes so I’m working on a broken rib sock which I’m enjoying.

We were at a wedding on Saturday which I managed to find time to sew a dress for - I didn’t manage to get any pictures on the day but I’ll have to try and get some soon as I’m so proud of it and it’s absolutely beautiful.

And that’s about it! Life is puppy, work, puppy, eat, puppy, sleep (a little) and not much else. It’ll be so worth it when we have the gorgeous dog we’re hoping for and she’s already so beautiful and we’re bonding well but it’s incredibly all-consuming for the moment.
